Okay new issue.
Recently a new innovation in the stem cell research debate surfaced. Or maybe I should say a new method of stem cell research did. Scientests apparently now have the ability to create a stem cell from a dead skin cell whereas previously it took dead embryos to create a stem cell. This changes the way that an argument against stem cell research may be made. After all now you are taking already dead cells which naturally die off and using them to create stem cells. In most ways thats not really a big human rights issue. Plus no living being must die in this process. they only need to shed :P
Now at one time I was really fiercely against stem cells and I still am against them for religious reasons only. But I will admit that medically speaking they are by far a massive opportunity for man to cure diseases that have proven to be illustrious to us previously. Really this field of medical technology could possibly cure cancer, paralysis, mental development disorders, AID's any number of things. Really the possibilities are limitless, which is also why I worry about stem cell research. Because when things are meant for good often times they can be used for evil.
Criminals could easily get stem cell research to change their body complection, skin color, any number of things and become impossibly to capture. Terrorists could easily use it to their advantage in order to change their appearance. However to deny millions and possibly billions of people the possible benefits granted by stem cell research is hardly fair after only a few thousand abuse it.
I could see either side of this argument really; and my own beef with the issue is just how easily it could be abused, and how unethical I feel it is based off of my religious beliefs. But in a scientific sense I think this is an amazing technique. The only way I feel it should be used is in a well controlled manner to work only and solely on issues dealing with body damage and diseases.
Is it worth it to you??

Alright, my main arguement is that is it worth the life of millions to keep this advancement for being used because someone is worried about it's abuse? Yes, it is possible, but there could be ways to secure the technology so that mistakes like that don't happen. I think in the end, the lives of millions is way worth the fight. Just think about it, i mean my grandma has diabetes and almost, well, it was bad. If she could be saved this torture by using dead skin cells, how could anyone tell me that it is wrong? Hillary
ok...i understand about the whole deal with the embryos and getting mixed up with that. i have some mixed feelings myself on that...but on the other hand, you dont really know what all the stem cell stuff can do unless you actually see it save someone close to you. My brother is living do to the fact of a stem cell transplant.
Technology is meant to be exploited. It will help our civilization grow and live long and prosper ^_^
I agree that the research is a good idea. It could really save a lot of lives some day.
leave it b. don't mess with it
I guess if this God didn't want it to happen then he could intervene at any time. Personally I think this technology should be used to save lives. The whole thing about criminals using it... I just don't see happening since it is quite expensive and with that kind of money they could just pay off the cops in the first place. I honestly know very little about this though so I won't debate either way too much.
i say just leave nature to take its course, we don't need to be injected with cells and other things, it is the "circle of life", everything that is meant to happen should be left alone.
I can see what you are saying, but I don't see why we shouldn't use technology and evolve.
the question is. Is it evolution or tampering with nature??
NEITHER! its reserching what is given to us to help save others.
People use to think going into space was impossible or tampering w/ nature. IDk it doesn't seem like a bad thing to me where the ends justify the means.
it's tampering with nature...
What is so bad about "tampering with nature". We have only been doing that since our existance on this planet.
