todays work out was smooth sailing in stormy seas

just what we looked like today Today we had to do our 2 mile time trial for cross country. Now yes I know that being a cross country team we are supposed to run far, and many of you are probably thinking "2 miles, why that isn't that far, i could run 2 miles". and yes i would hope you could run 2 miles otherwise I must say you need to work on your cardio vascular strentgh... a lot. But yes today is quite important, all of our work outs for the next 4 weeks or so are based off of how fast we ran our 2 mile today, so its best to put forth a good showing.
I didn't do amazing considering the fact that I have been training for basically 3 months straight hard... but since I haven't done any speed really I didn't know what to expect. ran an 11:55, not too bad that would translate out to about an 18:10 or so in a 5K.
The team did really good as a whole I feel. cept for the young freshman, man are they out of shape. We came in all of us last year in far better shape then these young bucks have. Well I don't know about the girl at least, but the guys are horrid. to put it nicely, maybe over time I'm thinking they will improve but one of the boys was on pace to run over 30 minutes for a 5K, thats over a 10 minute average mile. Thats ridiculous. People can out walk that pace!!
but on the other hand the guys looked strong. Brad, ben, lucas and I all did really well, and Kyle Hallamen finished higher then I expected him to. Alex and Aman were a bit disappointing but they probably were letting us younger folk have a chance at the lead :)
the girls looked pretty good too. Lauren brooks was so so today, she kinda didn't look too impressive to me... but Lauren, Amy and hillary all impressed me today. They did better then half the guys. And yes while they may say what not about their times, really considering that they have never run this far before in their lives in such a speedy environment, it was really a sign of how far along they have come as runners since just this past track season. Hopefully they will take the girls to state with us guys :)
And lastly on that half I just want to say that no I didn't prove to Kriegel that he has a runner on his hands, little (ha like 7 feet tall) noob caught up to me at the mile and then proceeded to burn me. He ran a 5:48 first mile split, and I ran a 5:49 but after that he finished his two mile with a time of 10:54, while i was a full minute away running an 11:55. so yes Kriegel you got me, pwned I was. But next year I will take you tall man.
by the way, its been a pleasure meeting you Hillary I must say. now everyone have a wonderful day, and rejoice in the fact that you didn't read all this.
