Let's see if we can by chance get a debate going here.
I have been thinking a bit lately about school and about the subjects I am in. Some of the classes are really interesting and seem to have a large scale relevance to my real actual life. Some of the other ones have zero impact on my daily life. For example, Trigonometry has zero impact on my daily life, at least as far as I personally using it is concerned. I know that my computer, and video games and all that jazz requires Trig but as far as me personally using it, that isn't happening so its rather lame.
However, classes such as AP Biology, Psychology, and AP Econ are all very useful classes. I mean they can be used and applied in your daily life. From the way your cells work to how your brain functions to looking at the opportunity costs of the activities in my life, they are all useful. It's all rather exciting to see how these classes can be used to our best benefit.
The point behind this storyline however is to figure out which one people feel is the least important/necessary class. I'm not specifically asking for your least favorite class, just the one you feel is least necessary to your survival in this world, or the least relevant to the world for that matter.
For me, that class would have to be Surprising Spain at the moment. After all, I have no friends or people I associate with at this time who really speak Spanish as their only language or primary language for that matter. IN this manner, I get no practice with the language at home like I do at school since there is no one to talk with in spanish anways. Plus, the language isn't furthering me in some other ways. The next most closely related subject would have to be Medieval History because of its tough integration with society today. However Spanish as a whole takes the cake for worthlessly worthless. The class actually infuriates me.
So then, let me know your own thoughts and feelings on this people, please.

I'm not the biggest bio or math fan, but i believe knowing how your cells split is just as usless of knowledge as trig, unless ofcourse you would be going into those fields in your later life careers.
Personally, I would have to say that being required to take gym is the most worthless thing ever. You don't have to be athletic to do well later in life, and if you're not athletic or play sports now, gym is not going to change that.
see how cells split is pretty worthless yea. However lets say for example, how do you get ice cubes, or water to boil. While that may sound like chemistry, it's actually just as much about biology. Water potential and all that jazz. The whole class isn't useful everyday but some of the facts are.
Yea gym is pretty worthless. We don't do anything that requires physical activity anyways.
English hands down. All you do is speculate as to what someone is thinking...its all total BS.
Well, even though AP chem happens to be one of my favorite classes, i will most likely never use it again in life. Although, it isn't a required class. Out of all of the classes i'm required to take i'd have to say that English is of the least importance for my future. I already know how to speak well, so there doesn't seem to be a point in RE-learning grammer that should have been -and WAS- taught in 6th grade. There are skills that should be taught in English class that will be used later in life, but being forced to read books written during the 1500's and such doesn't seem to really enhance my daily life.
okay i can vouch for english, ap english no matter how much u HATE HATE HATE HATE it, its sooooo worth having had. seriously that and psych are the two most useful classes ever.
least useful and most pointless
bottom line
no question
CALCULUS
Jeff- if you don't know how to boil water or atleast freeze ice cubes by the third grade- ur stupid.
Mark why does water freeze?? why does water boil?? How can you make water evaporate without fire?? Can you tell me Mark?? And you can't say by third grade cause I'm pretty sure I had never boiled water up to third grade. I mean maybe cooking with my mom when I was younger I did, but I didn't know what I was doing or what was happening. Thats being a bit judgemental there.
Kelly you were just in a school newsletter for getting like a 3.0 average on 3 or more AP exams. Congratulations lol.
haha im the biggest failure at life.
except for my roomate whose burning her math book. my point from before
math = death
Ok Jeff, but as long as you know as much as a third grader knows about boiling water, its pretty much useless in life to know why its boils.
water is just a small example. The whole class is just a boatload of information, most of which can be applied to life. Whether or not its necessary for your survival, knowing these things can be really important.
Okay... i guess when you think about it, you really dont need much that you learn in school past like 5th grade to "survive," but you need it to get into a good college/ get a successful job. So really, for some people- spanish could be the most important, for others it could be the least important. I mean, if you wanted to become a fashion designer, you wouldn't need many classes offered at the highschool. So basically, i think it mainly depends on what you plan on doing with your life.
well i want to be like forrest gump and run around the nation. I think that would be fun, I don't need any education to do that.
least important: gym, becasue it forces you to do physical activity in forms you may not want to. i exersize on my own but in different ways than my school provides such as yoga, lunges, squts, walking, running...you know more personal fitness. Also, gym its always the same 5 guys controlling the entire game so even if you wanted to you cant participate. i think its unfair to get graded on athletic skill.
Most important: health, becasue it teaches you what a healthy lifestyle, safe choices etc are in life. these are things i use everyday and in my decision making.
Science classes are important because it basically tells us how to set up experiments to prove and test things. It is also important to teach people reality rather than have them believe ideas such as the earth only being 6000 years old. Econ is also very useful for making choices and is probably one of the most applicable classes to life. Psychology is just fun to have learned just to point out things such as hindsight bias and the statistics chapter I think aout quite a bit.
A lot of classes are quite useless, most namely calc, trig and chemistry if you don't get into those lines of work.
